Description


Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in technology, multimedia, and/or related subject matter areas; assists teachers in maintaining student academic skills while in a computer lab, classroom, and/or library setting; monitors and reports student progress.

CURRENT VACANCIES: Various part-time vacancies, both permanent and substitute/temporary, exist throughout the District at elementary schools. Positions in this classification are 3 hours per day and 9.25 months per year.


Substitute/temporary employees are paid a fixed hourly rate.


Permanent employees may earn higher rates upon successful completion of the probationary period (step 2 after 130 days of paid service) and may receive merit increases each year up to the maximum amount (reaching step 9 after 7 1/2 years).

  • Tutors individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher and providing assistance to students with technology (including computer hardware/software), multimedia, and/or library related subject matter.

  • Prepares lessons as directed by the teacher and evaluates students according to established guidelines.

  • Monitors and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior.

  • Provides support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating technology related and audio-visual equipment, operating education computer equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.

  • Assists students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.

  • Assists students with technology related equipment including computer hardware/software.

  • Confers, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.

  • Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.

  • Directs group activities of students as assigned.

  • Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:


Education:


Consistent with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and other related legislation, candidates for this classification must meet the following standards:


The equivalent of graduation from high school and one of the following*:



  • One year of experience at the level of GUSD Education Assistant II or Library Assistant.

  • Completion of at least two years of study (48 semester units or 60 quarter units) at an institution of higher education.

  • Attainment of an Associate of Arts degree or higher. Additionally, completion of coursework at an accredited institution of higher education in child development, education, and/or psychology is desirable.

  • Verification of high school graduation, college units, and degrees will be required.


Experience:


Some experience working with children in an organized setting preferably with the use of a computer and other technologies including multimedia devices.


Any other combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered.


Desirable:


Written and oral proficiency in a second language.


License:


Positions in this classification require the use of personal transportation, and the possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.


Physical Demands:


Lifting and carrying light objects and instructional equipment typically weighing up to 20 pounds. Examination Process
