Launch Mechanical Design Engineer

The Role Tesla is in need of mechanical engineers to tend to daily needs of production and supply chain to maintain a supply of quality parts to drive unit lines. New Vendors and ongoing production shortages require some part redesign and validation activities in a timely or forward looking manner.Responsibilities Manage 3D CAD and 2D drawings in both CAD and PLM softwareIdentifying and tending to potential and actual part shortages or quality issuesDesign validation and durability testing for new designs and vendorsProfile development and data analysis for drive unit and component testingCarry designs through to high-volume production; DFM, cost reductions, and second sourcingCollaborate with manufacturing engineers and various suppliers to transition concepts to productionUtilize understanding of materials and manufacturing processes to collaborate with various suppliers and other internal team members.Mentoring junior engineers and interns Requirements The ideal candidate will have:Evidence of exceptional ability as a problem solvedUnderstand PFMEA concepts and implementationVendor relations experienceStatistical process control and methodsUse CAD modeling techniques and CATIA v5 to design and develop electric drive systems and mechanical components for testing and manufacturing.Expected skills: GD&T, 3D CAD, 2D Drawings, DFMEA, PFMEA, structural and thermal FEABonus skills: Catia, NVH analysis, Machine design, specification writing, plastic injection molding, bolted joint design
