OPERATIONS CHEM HYGIENE/SAFETY OFFICER EHS COORDINATOR/FACILITIES MANAGER, Biology, to manage the Department of Biology’s facilities operations, specifically Building 68. This includes building and equipment management and maintenance; environment, health, and safety (EHS) regulations; and supervising the glass washing and media-making facility and its employees. Will serve as primary contact for all building systems in the department; communicate with faculty in advance of any activities affecting research operations (e.g., systems shutdowns, moves, etc.); maintain building security and card access systems; act as project manager on building renovations; assist with lab/office assignments and layouts; develop and manage budgets, including monitoring of all expenditures on a monthly basis; assess facilities’ needs, and develop and ensure ongoing process improvements and guidelines for all operational areas; maintain and revise chemical hygiene plan (CHP) and safety plans as necessary; act as a liaison with MIT’s EHS Office to develop and maintain safety regulations for the department; conduct periodic lab safety inspections, arranging for EHS decommissioning or special inspections as necessary; conduct training seminars for teaching and research labs; organize department EHS committee and EHS representatives’ meetings; help with lab closing, waste management, and disposal (equipment, sharps, and chemicals); and oversee operations of glass washing and media facility, including maintenance and operation of equipment.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: B.S. in a related field; at least five years of relevant experience; general understanding of building systems; excellent supervisory, interpersonal, analytical skills, communication, and project management skills; ability to make decisions and work effectively under pressure of deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment; and strong computer skills.
