Job Description: Phlebotomy Technician

We are currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomy Technician to join our healthcare team. As a Phlebotomy Technician, you will play a vital role in the collection and processing of blood specimens for diagnostic testing, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care. 2. Specimen Handling: Label, process, and prepare blood specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring accurate identification, documentation, and handling of samples. Maintain specimen integrity and chain of custody to ensure reliable test results.

3. Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a courteous, professional, and empathetic manner, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and providing reassurance as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.

4. Equipment Maintenance: Maintain phlebotomy equipment, including needles, tubes, and blood collection trays, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and proper storage. Perform routine equipment maintenance and troubleshoot any issues as they arise.

5. Documentation: Accurately document patient information, specimen collection details, and laboratory requisition data in electronic health records (EHR) or other documentation systems. Complete requisition forms and paperwork in a timely and organized manner.

6. Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on blood collection materials, reagents, and supplies to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards. Follow established protocols for specimen handling and transport to maintain sample integrity.

7. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control procedures, and OSHA regulations related to bloodborne pathogens and hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment to minimize risks and promote workplace safety.

Requirements:

1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification from an accredited institution preferred.

2. Certification: Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) preferred. CPR certification may be required depending on the employer.

3. Experience: Previous experience in phlebotomy or healthcare setting preferred but not required for entry-level positions. On-the-job training may be provided for qualified candidates.

4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, as well as knowledge of blood collection equipment and procedures. Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity required.
