The Controller will be a permanent employment opportunity and will be located in the Yuba City, California region. Planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff will be essential for this role. The ideal candidate for this position can effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services, lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Major responsibilities
- Respond on items beyond formal job responsibilities
- Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners
- Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
- Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
- Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
- Inspect deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
- Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
- Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis
- Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management
- Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time
Requirements
- Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus
- Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
- CPA/MBA preferred
- Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
- CPA experience desired
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively throughout all levels of the company
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
- Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
- Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued
- Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges
