Database Product Support Engineer is a key role in VMware’s Modern Applications & Management Business Group (MAMBG) comprised of products and services under the Tanzu portfolio to help customers build, run and manage their most important applications. We build applications with velocity to run in a cloud-native environment, run open-source Kubernetes with consistency, and manage our customers' entire footprint with confidence to help them achieve their business outcomes. We are looking for engineers who want to make a lasting impact on our enterprise-grade database and analytics offerings: VMware Tanzu Greenplum, VMware Tanzu SQL (MySQL & Postgres).


Success in the Role:

You understand enterprise customers' expectations of the technical support experience and judge your success by the success of your team and the happiness of your customers. Maybe you’re interested in working directly with enterprise clients to replicate, troubleshoot, and resolve their technical issues, or perhaps you enjoy working under pressure, helping people in high-impact situations. Either way, you thoughtfully assist each customer by listening, connecting the dots, documenting the situation and solution, and escalating when appropriate. You bring analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills and you are interested in continuously improving yourself, our support systems, and products by taking training, reporting defects, and collaborating with R&D and operations to triage customer issues.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments will you be performing on a regular basis? What are the requirements and expectations?


Apply in-depth knowledge to troubleshoot complex technical issues around VMware Tanzu Data Services products Plan, design, develop, and test software systems and applications for software enhancements and new products. Contribute to the design of architecture, features, and enhancements, Work with Engineering teams to prioritize upcoming fixes and patches. Responsible for Customer Escalation triage and facilitation, business review preparation, and Product Release Readiness programs.

  • Required Skills / Experiences Ability to analyze, diagnose, replicate, troubleshoot, and resolve standard to highly complex technical issues Familiarity with Networking in Linux environments Troubleshooting skills in Linux environments (pstack, strace, gdb, etc.) Familiarity with PostgreSQL or similar technologies (psql, patroni HA, etc.) The ability to juggle conflicting priorities and demands, and deliver on time Strong communication skills. Highly developed interpersonal skills: team player attitude, self-motivation, and proactive attitude 5+ years of experience in a job or computer-related occupation.

  • Desirable Skills / Experiences Production DBA experience including patching and upgrades is a plus Work experience with distributed MPP systems (i.e. Greenplum, Netezza, Teradata) is a plus Kubernetes and container technologies knowledge is a plus Strong knowledge of data normalization and data relationships Technical degree (Computer science, Telecommunications or similar), experience in a related role is a plus
