Position Function

The Cybersecurity Analyst will be responsible for enhancing the overall security posture of the MSU High Performance Computing Collaboratory through the use and employment of a variety of methods, tools, and best practices. The Cybersecurity Analyst will be responsible for assisting in security audits, conducting SIEM analysis, conducting vulnerability and threat assessments, and responding to network or system intrusions. This position will be responsible for installing, operating, and maintaining a variety of cybersecurity-related software and hardware solutions.

Salary Grade : 14

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Work on cyber security projects and provide technical support to HPC2 Computing
office staff
  • Analyze and validate security alerts, provide reports on resolution of those alerts, and
follow up with relevant staff members in response to those alerts
  • Monitor, analyze, and investigate system irregularities, indicators of compromise, or
unauthorized access through the use and application of a variety of cybersecurity tools,

best practices, and methods.
  • Install, operate, and maintain cybersecurity related products and solutions
  • Stay up to date on related threats to HPC2 information systems and assist in
employing countermeasures to address applicable threats across the environment
  • Assist with developing and maintaining secure baselines for HPC2 information
systems and related network infrastructure devices
  • Utilize proprietary and/or open-source tools to perform vulnerability scanning of
organizational information systems and applications
  • Perform network traffic analysis
  • Perform root cause analysis of any and all information security and network incidents
  • Coordinate with relevant staff members to mitigate identified vulnerabilities, threats to
the environment, or any other security-related concerns

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Substitutions

When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may

normally apply additional experience toward the education requirement at a rate of one (1)

year of relevant experience per year of required education or Substitutions allowed as approved by HRM

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Python, Perl, JavaScript, )
  • Understanding of malicious attack vectors, tactics, techniques, and procedures
  • Familiarity with NIST controls
  • CompTIA Security+ certification
  • CompTIA Network+ certification
  • Familiarity with Security, Incident, and Event Management (SIEM) technologies and tools
  • Ability to differentiate between a significant event, a false positive, and a false negative
  • Basic networking knowledge (TCP, HTTP, DNS, firewall implementations)
