Job Summary
Applied NLP team at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Informatics and Computing Infrastructure research center seeks a skilled self-directed Software Developer who will enjoy working in our dynamic, fast-paced collaborative research team. The individual will join an established, progressive team of innovators conducting research within the Department of Veterans Affairs, which has one of the largest electronic medical record databases in the world.
Responsibilities
•Producing and maintaining high quality software applications for clinical natural language processing.
•Maintaining coding, and documenting computer software for data analysis and management.
•Providing technical assistance in collaboration with federal, state, and local partners and non-government stakeholders.
•Manage existing applications, bug fixing, enhancement and interacting with users to resolve problems
•Analyzing existing software implementations to identify areas of improvement and provide deadline estimates for implementing new features
•Recommending software upgrades to optimize operational efficiency
•Collaborating with other developers to design and optimize code
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
Technical Requirements:
•Demonstrated strong programming skills in Java, Python, and SQL .
•Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
•3+ years of experience in Java/ Python
•Experience with scalable architectures for Java or Python (e.g., UIMA AS, Spark, Hadoop, Mahout, Dask)
•Clinical NLP experience, (e.g., UIMA , MetaMap, or cTAKES )
•Experience in automated testing
•Experience in development and release of open source applications.
