JOB INFORMATION

Regardless of your college major or career plans, experiences in our camps will allow you to learn and develop new skills while working in a fun & engaging environment. Our summer camps will provide you with skill-building, leadership, and training opportunities that will help build your resume and set you up for success
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Non-exempt; seasonal; working up to 20 hours per week; assigned hours may include weekdays, weekends/evening hours and events; no benefits; June - August 2023
Pay Rate: $14.25- $16.75 based on experience
This support staff person will assist individuals with disabilities by integrating them into a general recreation program/camp. Direction is received from the program director/leaders. Supervision is received from the Recreation Specialist, Recreation Supervisor or positions at a higher classification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and responsibly supervise the person/persons to whom you are assigned
Coordinate with the program director/leaders to adapt activities when necessary
Assist the individual with the disability in accessing all facets of the program
Maintain behavior protocols when necessary
Communicate daily/weekly with parents and staff
If the individual with the disability does not require one-on-one attention during the entire activity, the support staff would then assist in basic program duties
Complete all necessary paperwork
Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The qualifications / requirements, knowledge/skills/abilities and physical demands or working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Minimum age 18 years by June 1, 2023
Current certification in First Aid and CPR (infant/child and adult), or able to become so certified prior to the start of a program (current certifications must be maintained throughout employment)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Level I: No experience working with individuals with disabilities required (will work with individual with low support needs)
Level II: Minimum 1 year experience working with individuals with mild to moderate support needs
Level III: Minimum 1 year experience working with individuals with low to high support needs and course work in recreation, psychology, special education or related field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with various types of disabilities
Ability to advocate for individuals with disabilities to promote social inclusion within the program
Ability to work well with large and small groups
Ability to enforce behavior management strategies when necessary
Possess an attitude of enthusiasm and commitment in providing recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities
Ability to effectively lead and supervise various-sized groups of adults and children in a variety of recreational activities
Ability to effectively plan and organize group activities
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, participants and their family members, school personnel and the general public
Ability to think clearly and respond quickly and appropriately in all situations
Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
Additional related education
Experience working with individuals with disabilities
Experience with inclusive recreation programming
Secondary language skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical requirements include the ability to move/travel over program-related terrain in indoor and outdoor areas; lift up to 50 lbs.; to lead and participate in activities as described above; and to load, unload and set-up recreational equipment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / EXAMINATION PROCESS
Ability to provide own transportation
Ability and willingness to participate in planning and training sessions
Must be available to work 7 of the 8-week camp sessions
KIND OF EXAMINATION:
1) An evaluation of training and experience
2) One or more interviews
3) A pre-employment fingerprint supported background investigation
