Summary
The Assistant Manager - Carpentry is responsible for managing the carpentry team to ensure jobs are completed in an efficient, safe, accurate, and timely manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages direct reports on the carpentry team, including performance appraisals, merit increases.
- Manages the carpentry of all types of shop materials to produce orders including graded lumber, plywood, PVC, and acrylic like materials.
- Communicates with Sales, Exhibitor Sales, and other Department heads on work orders.
- Holds safety meetings to ensure that all equipment meets OSHA safety requirements and all personnel operate machinery safely.
- Meets deadlines on all in-house work tickets, utilizing as much straight time as possible.
- Coordinates with Operations Manager to purchase bulk material and keep shop adequately stocked for busy schedules. Looks for new materials that can reduce costs.
- Ensures that projects are running smoothly, using least amount of material and labor with minimal mistakes.
- Examines blueprints, shop drawings, and details to determine dimensions of structure. Determines sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of structures.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Coordinates schedule with paint shop and graphics shop as needed.
- Delegates work to outside subcontractors when needed due to work load.
- Meets all production deadlines on time or before due dates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade School experience is preferred.
- Requires five (5) years carpentry shop experience plus five (5) or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
