QUALIFICATIONS: Meet day care licensing requirements for an assistant teacher. Assistant teacher in early childhood education or CDA or 2 years college and six months experience with preschool ages and 9 units Early Childhood Education.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The assistant teacher's role is similar to that of a teacher, therefore the responsibilities are similar. The assistant teacher is directly responsible to the teacher and is expected to provide support:
ASSIST CHILDREN:
Work with individuals or small groups of children as directed by the teacher in charge
Help with planning, prep, and implementation of learning tasks
Help with record keeping
Be sensitive and responsive to children’s needs
Use positive modeling and behavior management
ASSIST PARENTS:
Be a positive role model
Communicate clearly, regularly, and appropriately
Respect confidentiality
Be sensitive to needs
Help encourage school, class, child involvement
COMMIT TO THE PROGRAM:
Come to work on time and on a regular basis
Contribute to programs in terms of communication, ideas, talent or interests
Continue to demonstrate interest in the job
Help to maintain an attractive, clean, and safe environment
Help to take care of equipment and materials
Assist in fundraising activities
Participate in weekly staff meetings
Help supervise aides
Maintain NAEYC Accreditation Standards
OTHER EXPECTATIONS:
Conduct self in a professional manner when dealing with children, other staff, or parents, or during school activities on or off campus
Follow school policies and procedures
Increase knowledge of early education and upgrading skills by attending workshops, classes or training sessions
Complete other duties as assigned
