We have an exciting opportunity for a Research & Assessment Analyst II to join AAAS!

The Research & Assessment (R&A) Analyst II formally sits within AAAS's Research & Data Analytics (RDA) Department and works under the direction of the Director of RDA. This position will support AAAS's Inclusive STEMM Ecosystems for Equity & Diversity (ISEED) led by the Director of ISEED. The R&A Analyst II gathers, analyzes, interprets, and reports research and assessment data to program leadership. They conduct reviews, research, and syntheses of STEMM education projects that intend to increase participation in STEMM. The R&A Analyst II will create evaluation-related deliverables that enhance the knowledge of the ISEED team members to support decision-making and the continuous improvement and assessment of the impacts of ISEED projects by aiding with the design and execution of research needs, including the development of logic models, research plans, evaluation design, and survey methodology.

The R&A Analyst II will support two AAAS initiatives: S-STEM Resource and Evaluation Center (REC) and SEA Change. Within the S-STEM REC project, the R&A Analyst II will work closely with the REC Director and Center Coordinator to create programmatic deep dives that identify effective strategies and assess outcomes of S-STEM projects from varied contexts. The R&A Analyst II will also contribute to the creation of the evaluation framework and support the coordination of impact reports and external evaluation. Within the SEA Change initiative, the R&A Analyst II will collaborate with SEA Change staff to revise and implement the project research and assessment plan. Under the guidance of the SEA Change staff, they will implement the needed research and assessment data collection strategies to meet reporting requirements.

What You'll Do

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting

  • Lead the design, day-to-day management and delivery of surveys, databases, reports, list pulls, and dashboards.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of survey data as well as other data sources.
  • Prepare charts, tables, PowerPoint slides and reports.
  • Develop program planning and evaluation tools including but not limited to logic models, utilizing standard practices and measurement indicators.
  • Design, manage and deliver regularly scheduled reports and dashboards.

Secondary Research

  • Conduct literature reviews and research syntheses
  • Research and identify formative, process, impact, and outcome assessment methodologies appropriate for assessing programs related to equitable education

Evaluation Planning and Implementation

  • Develop data collection and program evaluation tools (e.g., logic models, measurement indicators, etc.).
  • Compare desired and actual program outcomes related to the evaluation process and findings.
  • Suggest changes based on the information that is collected through written reports and presentations.


Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree with 4-5 years of relevant experience, or MA/MS with 2-3 years of relevant experience. Degree(s) must be from an accredited college or university in a social science, business administration, or STEMM discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience with research design, data collection, analytic procedures, and data analysis desired.
  • Familiar with quantitative and qualitative research methods, multivariate testing, sampling, and statistical significance. A focus on impact analysis is preferred.
  • Proficient with R, survey development platforms (e.g., Alchemer, SurveyMonkey,) data visualization software such (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Familiarity with MS SQ and other coding languages a plus.
  • Experience developing visually compelling reports and dashboards that reveal key trends in the data
  • Prior experience in equity-focused higher education research and/or institutional change.
  • Knowledge of mixed methods research strategies including qualitative and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with developing logic models, theories of action, outcome measurement, research syntheses, and impact assessment.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • High proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint to structure and deliver executive level presentations.
  • Experience with statistical and database packages (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, etc.) is required and experience with data visualization platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, etc.) are a plus.
  • Performs at a high level with minimal supervision and executes directives accurately and with precision.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills.
