STV, Inc, currently has an opening in our New York, Manhattan office for a Division Safety Manager to support our Construction Management Group. This individual will report to the Director of Health & Safety and provide support across the Construction Management group’s geographic boundaries and add value throughout the Division by working with all levels of management integrating safety and health into all aspects of the construction management process, from the design phase to jobsite management.  Key responsibilities will include strategic planning, programmatic support and staffing safety resources for CM needs. The Division Safety Manager will facilitate organizing and running multiple construction projects in a manner that ensures the projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and that meet all applicable regulatory and quality requirements. Also, the administration of safety among office locations is an important aspect of support. The Division Safety Manager must plan proactively achieving efficiencies, anticipating issues and addressing CM support needs.

This position requires interacting with CM group leadership to implement the STV HSE program and supporting multiple projects and offices. This includes facilitating the completion of Health and Safety Plans, regular site surveys of construction projects to identify and evaluate physical conditions, safety practices, hazardous situations, and compliance with established safety standards. This position also requires interfacing with clients, contractors, NYC DOB, OSHA and other safety professionals to direct and implement safety standards, codes and regulations.

This position also requires interacting with STV’s Marketing group to support proposals, reviewing safety requirements in contracts, and engaging in pre-construction planning efforts to facilitate safety requirements for scheduled scope of work.

The ideal candidate must be able to: 

  • Spend up to 80% of their time on construction project sites.
  • Anticipate majority of work in the NY/NJ area, but also capable of assisting projects in other locations across the country where needed.
  • Provide Division support regarding strategic planning, program development and enforcement, safety staff resourcing, training and safety budget’s needs.
  • Support corporate safety program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts
  • Develop divisional performance measures inclusive of leading indicators to monitor and audit project performance  
  • Apply STV’s policies, procedures and work practices to promote the Company and project safety and health program.
  • Monitor compliance with mandatory safety and health laws, standards and codes.  
  • Monitor and audit the programmatic elements of STV’s HSE Management system.
  • Provide career development guidance and direction for direct reports.
  • Participate in the investigation of injuries, conditions, and incidents that do, or could involve actual or potential liability, maintains records of pertinent data, and compiles the required reports.
  • Support regulatory investigations and citation management strategies.  
  • Maintain safety logs and records all incidents.  Collects all related information from staff, public and subcontractors and records in project logs.
  • Function as point of contact for contractors' and subcontractors' Safety Representatives.  
  • In conjunction with project managers and engineering team members, develops and initiates specific safety and health procedures to translate policies and regulations into effective work practices.  
  • Works collaboratively with other safety team members throughout the organization. 
  • Facilitates project specific Health and Safety Plans and when applicable provides orientation to new hires and subcontractor labor.  
  • Monitor and attend contractors’ pre-construction meetings, other meetings, and maintains copies of meeting records in project folders.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in Safety or a field related to occupational safety and health. 
  • Professional credentials such as: Board of Certified Safety Professionals Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and/or Construction Safety and Health Technician (CHST), and/or the American Board of Industrial Hygiene Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or NYC DOB Site Safety Manager.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • At least 12 years of safety and health experience in vertical type construction, heavy industry/manufacturing facilities, and/ or similar industry.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, safety personnel, and support personnel.
  • Computer literacy and experience working with Microsoft software products
