Growing Mid-south Carrier seeking an experienced Safety Manager (Regional)

The Safety Manager will provide oversight and accountability for Regional Operations by setting achievable goals and expectations and building a team culture that promotes success by managing and advising both drivers and management on Regulatory Requirements and Company policies, monitoring compliance with requirements and discovering solutions to risk related issues in a fast-paced environment.

The primary goals include providing leadership and accountability for safety and compliance performance, helping further inter departmental relationships and communication, improving losses and assisting in claims management and employee education.

Job Description:

· Monitor HOS performance of drivers within the region including violations, unidentified driving, conflicts, odometer gaps, and certifications, using data from ELD in cab devices.

· Monitor Telematics performance from systems such as Roll Stability, Lane Departures, Panic Brake, and Collision Mitigation, including the use of Camera Systems.

· Assist in the process of and monitor the handling claims such as accidents, incidents, injuries, fuel spills or cargo.

· Assist in the handling of claims resolution, including direct settlement and subrogation activities.

· Conduct driver “spot” inspections at company facilities on a regular basis performing mock DOT Level II roadside inspections.

· Conduct OSHA facilities inspections.

· Coach and educate on process or regulatory requirements in accordance with company policy and governmental regulation.

· Conduct Quarterly meetings with employees to communicate new information and as part of a broad-based risk reduction education program.

· Issue remedial training assignments and conduct post-accident and incident root cause analysis to determine remediation steps.

· Help respond to and resolve customer concerns related to accident or incident issues.

· Act as a liaison between drivers and management when resolving safety or compliance related issues.

· Conduct Smith System Defensive Driving classes and assist in the orientation process for new employees.

· Moderate overnight travel

Requirements:

A successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to organize, control and manage the effective oversight of multiple locations from a safety and risk management posture. This requires the ability to work closely with groups of people, including company employees at all levels, customers, vendors, claimants and the motoring public. The position requires integration of negotiation skills, analysis of problems, and the ability to understand and translate the company goals into appropriate actions.

Responsibility includes areas of oversight of less than 10 locations, including repair facilities, and a workforce of up to 250 driver employees. The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer literacy and the ability to function in an electronic communication environment is essential. Certification as a Director of Safety or Safety Supervisor through NATMI or equivalent is not required but is preferred.

A commitment to comply with and support safety standards, as well as, all regulatory and company policies and procedures is imperative. Prior experience is a plus. Moderate Travel is required.

Pay to be commensurate with experience.

Preferred Skills:

· 4 Year College Degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, or equivalent experience.

· OSHA 40 Hour Certificate, US DOT Motor Safety Compliance or Equivalent Experience

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Computer Literate (Laptop) with experience using programs such as PowerPoint, Excel, MS Word, G-Suite, and proprietary Windows-based operating systems.

· Strong time management skills

· CDL with excellent driving history

· Smith System Instructor Experience

· Certified Director of Safety or Certified Safety Supervisor Preferred
