Associate Director of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions

The George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions. About the Position:

The Associate Director of Recruitment and Admissions serves as a key member of the Graduate Admissions team in achieving enrollment goals for the Schar School of Policy and Government. The primary focus of this position will be to develop and manage recruitment and yield strategies, with an emphasis on growing the top of the recruitment funnel. Key priorities include identifying new viable recruitment populations, executing a comprehensive candidate engagement strategy, and building successful recruitment partnerships. The Associate Director will have previous experience in working with diverse populations, with full-time and part-time program recruitment, and will have a strong understanding of the changing higher education recruitment and admissions landscape.

The position will work in collaboration with key faculty stakeholders, Academic Advising, Career Development, Marketing and Communications, and other campus offices to support a seamless enrollment process for new students.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Recruitment and Admissions, develops an annual recruitment plan using data to inform the Schar School’s recruitment strategy;

  • Identifies new populations for recruitment outreach and develops targeted engagement plans;

  • Designs and manages an annual event and travel calendar for prospective and admitted students including fair registrations, recurring events, signature events, and yield events on-campus, throughout the region, and online;

  • Serves as primary lead for a portfolio of programs within the Schar School for on-going candidate communication;

  • Develops a comprehensive recruitment strategy for Bachelor’s/Accelerated Master’s students;

  • Provides regular reporting to the Director of Recruitment and Admissions and faculty stakeholders on candidate pipeline;

  • Collaborates extensively with Marketing and Communications on candidate communications plans, event communications, as well as print and digital media advertisements, including helping to identify target new audiences;

  • Manages student and hourly workers including recruitment and selection, training, assessment, and allocation of duties;

  • Represents the department in working groups, central committees and task forces, and in the larger community; and

  • Performs other related work as needed.






Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience;

  • Considerable (generally 3-5+ years) experience in higher education admissions, recruitment, and/or marketing, with progressive responsibility;

  • Working expertise in TargetX, Salesforce, or similar CRM/ Student Information Systems;

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Microsoft Excel for data analysis and report development;

  • Willingness and ability to travel, as well as work evening and weekend events (during peak season);

  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills with high attention to detail;

  • Desire to work collaboratively and develop strong working relationships; and

  • Express an entrepreneurial attitude and a willingness to try new things.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with graduate admissions and recruitment; and

  • Prior budget and scholarship management experience.
